"I started some Visual Basic programming. "I thought I could do it myself," he said. I'm deadly curious, though.Jensen continued to work on his own for several years, sketching art and making basic tries at programming a prototype. but before they were done with that particular formula I was hoping to see at least one more like LIMBO and INSIDE. Their games take a looong time to make and that is certainly needed. I guess the reason I did feel like it was a bit of a bummer is because although the 2.5 puzzle platformer isn't that important as to what they do, it's what I'm so familiar with them putting out. They will get it right because just as you said, the puzzles are kind of a side thing, the actual juicy Playdead vibes will come along anyway. I don't even have to put any faith in Playdead for their next project. Pretty much like key moments throughout the story to give just a little of what scarce hints there is to find about what the hell is happening. It makes the scene feel important to the whole thing. This is what gives those 'more important' sequences more "oomph" - the fact that a certain ambient background song plays when it happens. Most importantly though, it is the emphasis on realism in auditory effects, leaving little music to be heard. Then we have the intro of both games, which sets a very serious, alert tone. This is what I think is the most interesting and really contributes to the overall experience.įirst off, there is no dialogue at all, and the extremely vague nature of the story, if there is one at all, already makes the mysteriousness. surprisingly.Įven if my writing in the main post sounded like it didn't agree with what you just stated, know that you pretty much explained it much better than I did - it is exactly what I meant with "unique formula". Either way, I haven't seen this piece of info ANYWHERE. It felt like it was for me, I don't really know. They have their ways of turning a used up genre into something different and fresh.ĮDIT: After looking at the page again, it's not at all recent. However, I'm sure Playdead will pull something completely mindblowing and it will be so interesting to see what their take on a new genre will be. Part of the reason why I loved their games so damn much was because of their unique sidescroller formulas, each with a setting that just draws you into its utter mysteriousness - still being just as dark and macabre. If you ask me, this is both of great excitement and sadness. "We are currently working with an idea of a third-person shooter/action-game, but naturally with a Playdead-twist." I will spare you the tiresome translation, but there apparently is some interesting info on Playdead's next game already.
